She protects the worlds vulnerable
Controlling the spread of infectious disease is important, especially in the wake of a disaster or other emergency. Elisabeth Emerson has worked as
a public health technical officer for the World Health Organization (WHO) to protect and improve the health of vulnerable populations. She has focused her work on disease control, using data collection and health education to ensure treatment for people in need.
Elisabeth has worked in Kuwait, Mozambique, Indonesia, East Timor, Thailand, Bosnia Herzegovina and New York City. In each of these places, health has been seen as a bridge for peace. Her experiences overseas have taught Elisabeth three important ingredients for success: understand your mission and stick to it; respect the people and their culture, but dont forget yours; and plan your departureensure your activities will continue when you are gone.
